Newbie

Hi! I am new to homeschooling. I am working this month (December) on transitioning my daughter from public school to home. My daughter is 6, going on 7, and in Kindergarten. We've found that the public school setting just isn't ideal for her as we navigate ASD therapies (ABA, ST, OT, and PT)  and we have seen she needs much longer on assignments than we even anticipated. Bringing her home, will allow her to learn at her speed without the push to catch up.

I set up the grade book this week, but I am definitely still at the learning stage. I would love feedback on all the little things OnoSchool grade book has to offer. Tricks, secrets... whatever knowledge you're willing to share, I am all ears!

Thank you for providing this free grade book. What I have learned so far on my own... I'm beyond thankful. I love the simplicity of it. Along with being able to add photos of the assignments. I plan to keep the hard copies, but they could get lost, and having them accessible here is a great back up. Plus, I can pull an assignment for therapy easily if needed; especially for OT and ST.

New here!

Hello all,
This is my second year homeschooling my 4 children (ages 6, 13, 15, and 16). I taught elementary school in the public school system here in Georgia for past 8 years. I didn't like that I worked so hard to educate and love other people's children and then felt like I had no time or energy for my own children. (I do love working with children and teaching in general, but needed to prioritize my own children, if that makes sense.) I have learned that teaching in the public school system and homeschooling are very different animals! A lot of being a teacher has to do with classroom management and maintaining the environment rather than really teaching the content. Homeschooling lets me focus on the content since we already have our home life routines (and behaviors) under control. I do cheat a little, I use Outschool to find teachers to teach my 15 year old Algebra 1 and my 16 year old Chemistry and Pre-calculus. (I have a masters in mathematics education, but it's grades k-6! lol) It seems we are always finding things to make this journey easier. This website, for example, has been an answer to a prayer for how to better organize grades. I have used the Applecore system (applecoresystem.com) to put in final grades and run transcripts, since my oldest two are in high school. This is such a fabulous resource, and I am glad to have found it and all of you!

First Year of Homeschooling

This is my first year of homeschooling my 9 year old daughter. We are having a great year so far and she is doing amazing in her classes. I wasn't sure at first if I was going to be able to home school her myself but after getting help from my sister, who home schooled her daughter all the way to graduation, I realized I to can do this.

Veteran Homeschoolers

Hello everyone -
I homeschool my 3 special needs children.  This is our 9th year homeschooling and our first using any kind of grade book.  My oldest will be in high school next year so I'm trying to get the hang of a grade book before then so I'll be able to make her a high school transcript.

We don't use a set curriculum, but instead a mix of textbooks, online websites, hands-on activities, learning shows, immersive field trips, and more.  We follow their lead on what they want to learn, especially when it comes to elective subjects.

Homeschooling father of 2

Hello everyone. I'm a homeschooling father of 2 in kindergarten and fourth grade. We don't have a specific curriculum we go by. Typically I just buy books and workbooks for the subjects the government suggests they ought to be working on for their grade and we use those as the base. From there we supplement with things like Khan Academy, documentaries from Curiosity Stream, and me teaching them how to use different software. We started homeschooling because of Covid but decided to stick with it because after starting I saw how little depth they were actually learning. They were passing tests fine in school somehow but clearly weren't mastering subjects very well. So far I'm pretty happy with how things are turning out.
